A buyer's guide to Christmas gift boxes in India: the six questions every box should pass, plum cake vs chocolate vs hampers, what to spend by relationship, how Kerala keeps Christmas, and when to order for 25 December.

A Christmas gift box has more jobs to do than it looks. It has to suit a whole household rather than one person, wait under a tree or on a sideboard for days, travel to the in-laws, look festive enough to hand over without wrapping, and — in a South Indian December — sit beside the plum cake on a plate that every neighbour will see. This guide is about choosing a box that does all of that, for family, friends, carol singers and the office.
Christmas falls on Friday, 25 December 2026, so Christmas Eve is a Thursday and the holiday runs straight into a long weekend. Christmas Day is one of the compulsory central government holidays on the DoPT list for 2026.
For gifting, that means three windows: the office exchange in the last working week (Monday 21 to Thursday 24 December), Christmas Eve and Christmas Day visits, and the long weekend that follows — with New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027, exactly a week later.
Put any box you are considering through six questions. One that passes all six is a safe gift for almost anyone on your list.
Most Christmas boxes fall into five families. Each is right for someone.
Few places in India keep Christmas like Kerala, and its customs explain a lot about what makes a good Christmas gift there.
Kerala has its own claim on the Christmas cake. According to the Mambally family's account, reported by The News Minute, Mambally Bapu baked what is called India's first Christmas cake at his Royal Biscuit Factory in Thalassery in 1883, for the British planter Murdoch Brown, who had brought a plum cake from England and asked for one like it. Bapu swapped the French brandy in the recipe for a local brew. Thalassery is in Kannur district, where FAARO is based.
A chocolate box fits naturally into all of this: on the plate that goes next door beside the cake, in the bag for the carol group, on the table after the Christmas breakfast, and in the car for the afternoon visits. Keep one back for the carol singers — they always come on the evening you are not expecting them.
Spend by relationship, not by habit. This keeps a long list sensible.
Buy two more boxes than the list says. Someone always visits unannounced on Christmas Day, and a spare box in the cupboard turns an awkward moment into a gracious one.
We made the FAARO Christmas gift box to pass every one of the six questions above. It is a small, generous box for the long middle of a Christmas list — neighbours, colleagues, friends and Secret Santa — at ₹349.

Order in the first week of December. The FAARO Christmas box is currently made to order: its product page shows the date it will be dispatched, and courier delivery adds a few days on top. A box ordered by the first weekend of December reaches most of India well before Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December.
For a handful of boxes, order on faaro.shop and we deliver across India. For an office, a parish, a school or a society — fifty boxes or five hundred — tell us the quantity and date and we will quote, including printed sleeves with your own name or logo. Retailers who want to stock the box can find the trade route on our distributors page.
A sealed chocolate assortment in a festive box is the most reliable choice under ₹500: the whole household can share it, it keeps for months when stored cool and dry, it travels well and needs no wrapping. The FAARO Christmas gift box, for example, holds six filled chocolates (120 g) in a green-and-red drawer box with a printed Christmas greeting, for ₹349.
Christmas Day 2026 is on Friday, 25 December; Christmas Eve is Thursday 24 December. It is a compulsory central government holiday, and with the weekend that follows it gives a three-day break. New Year's Day 2027 is the following Friday, 1 January.
In the first week of December. The product page shows the current dispatch date for the FAARO Christmas box, and courier delivery adds a few days, so ordering by the first weekend of December leaves comfortable room before Christmas Eve on Thursday 24 December. For bulk office orders, allow three weeks or more.
Six 20 g filled chocolates, one of each: Berryza strawberry wafer crunch, Biscova crunchy white chocolate, Pistera pistachio kunafa milk chocolate, Lotus kunafa milk chocolate, Nocciola hazelnut milk chocolate and Chocoza choco crunchy cream — 120 g in total, in a green, red and gold sleeve with a slide-out drawer and a printed Christmas greeting.
It is a good companion rather than a replacement. Plum cake is the gift people expect in person, especially in Kerala; a chocolate box keeps for months, couriers easily and suits children and anyone who does not drink, since many plum cakes are soaked in rum or brandy. Many families now give both.
Yes. FAARO takes bulk Christmas orders and can add a printed sleeve with your company name or message. Send the quantity, delivery city and date through the contact page or WhatsApp for a quote, and allow three weeks or more so the boxes reach people before the last working week.
Generally no. Chocolate makers such as Callebaut advise against refrigeration because the fridge is humid and full of smells, and condensation causes sugar bloom. In December most Indian homes have a cupboard cool enough; if yours does not, wrap the chocolate airtight, refrigerate it, and let it return to room temperature in its wrapping before opening.
The right Christmas gift box is the one that is opened, shared and remembered. For the chocolate itself — reading the label, choosing flavours, serving it beside the cake — see our Christmas chocolates guide.
